Hello beautiful people!
I’m super excited to share that I have signed on as a regular contributor on the brand spanking new mommy blog How We Mom, which features unique takes on motherhood and parenting from 5 different women. I’m super excited to see how it evolves and will be posting content there each Thursday. But no worries, you won’t miss a thing because I’ll always have a short little post here to link over.
My first blog post for HWM is titled “How To KonMari With A Toddler” and has already gone over quite well! I clearly struck a chord!
What is KonMari? Japanese lifestyle guru Marie Kondo (KonMari is a mash up of her first and last name) wrote a handy little book called The Life Changing Magic of Tidying Up. This book has become increasingly more popular, along with minimalism, small living and tiny homes. The basic tenet is to only keep things in your home and around you that “spark joy”. The basic process is to break your stuff up into categories and sort through each starting with clothes, then books, random stuff, sentimentals and paper. You round up all the items in each category, place them in one area of your home and touch each piece individually asking yourself if it sparks joy. If it doesn’t, it gets the boot and gets tossed, sold or goes to charity. Once sorted items are organized in various methods such as the famous KonMari folding method for clothes. We’ve got to make sure our socks are “happy” and not folded into sad lumpy potatoes.
I highly recommend the book as I believe that many times our stuff can create a block that can sometimes effect other parts of our lives. If you’re spending time constantly organizing, cleaning and storing your stuff, when will you find time to do the activities that spark joy for you?
Even though I love the method, I have to admit, I have not successfully completed any of the categories..and thus this post was born…
