This week felt both long and short. I was motivated and felt like I accomplished a lot up until about Thursday when I felt a little like I fell off the organizational bandwagon I’d been on for several days. Here’s my favorite bits from the week that didn’t make it into my regular content…
I finally got the motivation to start a work out program I had purchased back in November. The Mutu 12 Week Program has been presented to me by the universe several times over the last year and a half and I finally took the hint in November but it took till this week for me to feel well enough and motivated enough to get started. I also think I was hesitating to start because it was never the perfect time, however my little business conference over the weekend reminded me that if I’m always looking for perfection, I’ll likely never even get started in the first place. So what is it? Its a “12-week postpartum fitness program with an incredible track record for building body confidence inside and out, for restoring core function, aiding fat loss and improving strength, tone and fitness.” I am mainly using the workout parts of the program and doing my own food thing but I’m a week in and really enjoying it.
I try to limit Holden’s screen time. His main access to cell phone is watching videos of himself and others or talking to his grandparents via video call but he does get a little TV while I’m cooking or trying to do something where little hands would get in the way or could get hurt and I don’t have anyone else around to distract. His favorite was Barney, but we recently fell in love with the Amazon Prime exclusive Tumble Leaf. The beautiful animation and whimsey of the show make it something I can watch. If he’s still into this when he gets a bit older, I’m hoping to create a “finding place” of his own where I can place objects on a regular basis for him to play and explore with.
Speaking of limiting screen time, I find as a stay at home mom that I probably get have more than my fair share of screen time. I was already feeling guilty for using it so much when around Holden and was looking for ways to modify my behavior so I could model better screen behavior to Holden. Seek and you shall find…Note To Self by WNYC a wonderful little tech podcast! Their weekly episodes are wonderful but they have two especially fun series. One which launched last year called “Bored and Brilliant” and included a week of challenges limiting smart phone use in order to cultivate a little boredom, which ultimately leads to more creativity! They followed up with a challenge this year called the “Infomagical Challenge” which aimed to reduce your intake of so much information (via tech and the internet) in order to allow you to reach a goal of choice. Some pre provided options included: be more creative and be more connected to friends and family. I chose to be more creative.
The first challenge was to “single task”. As a mom I’m constantly attempting to multitask as there is so much to do and toddlers make it incredibly hard to actually get all this things done. I found that when I slowed down and did one thing at a time I actually got more done. I did my best to apply this to both tech and real life things and it actually worked for both! As evidenced by the large amount of laundry I got down and the 4, count ‘em (include this one), 4 blog posts I wrote this week! I encourage you to take a look at both challenges and work through them sometime soon. I’m looking forward to my bored and brilliant week.
I hosted a little overnight oats party at my house on Saturday. What fun! The hosts (myself and a couple others) provided the oats and some snacks and the guests brought toppings and mix ins to share with each other plus jars to put it all in! We all loaded our jars with oats plus goodies of our choice and then took them home for several days of easy breakfasts! It was easy and cost effective since everyone brought one or two things to share!
It’s a long three day weekend for my family, you may or may not see a post tomorrow. If not, hope your weekend is great, as well as the week ahead!
