When I first smelled Joy from the bottle I thought it was ok. I decided to diffuse a little because it had been a tough week…life with an infant. I hated it. It was overpoweringly floral and took over my space with its smell. I turned it off, tried it later with a little Peace and Calming in it and ended up having to dump the rest of the water and clean out the diffuser, wasting my precious P&C.
Many say that if you don’t like the smell of an oil, it likely means you actually need it. When I tried Joy I was relatively happy but I was tired, struggling with the sometimes overwhelming task of motherhood and as a stay at home mom I didn’t really feel like I had a lot of purpose outside of my family. I ignored this theory, put the bottle of Joy away, and didn’t think about it for another couple weeks.
Between that time and now I have attended not one but two business boot camps put on by members of my Young Living upline. I have found a community in woman that live no where near me, but are passionate about similar things and will support me without judgment. I also was given a loan by my in laws to start the Institute of Integrative Nutrition Health Coach program and started on my path to becoming a health coach. For several years now I have wanted to help people live healthier and essential oils and health coaching are my path to this purpose. I feel like I have a passion for something outside of my family, a purpose and a way to help support us so that we can continue to have the flexibility in our lives for me to mostly stay at home with our son.
Back to Joy…a few days ago I saw the little pink bottle of Joy amongst all my beloved scents and opened it. And it smelled good! Maybe not my favorite scent (florals have never been my favorite) but it didn’t stink like it had. I mixed a little into my lotion and put it over my heart and on my neck. I felt pretty even though I hadn’t showered for a day..or two…don’t judge, I have an infant. I’ve now been using it like a perfume along with En-R-Gee (another oil that doesn’t smell too good to me…I wonder why, ahem) and I usually feel uplifted, beautiful and joyful.
I love the oils and I believe they can be wonderful supplements to a healthy lifestyle but they aren’t miracle cures. At IIN we are taught that health doesn’t just come from the foods we eat or products we use but from healthy relationships, a fulfilling career, a spiritual practice and physical activity (all referred to as Primary Nutrition). By engaging in new activities, finding a passion and a community, I found Joy for myself and now I can share that with others.
